AHI Carrier is expanding its New Zealand operation to
meet demand from Kiwi companies wanting energy efficient and
climate-conscious HVAC solutions.
With next generation
commercial products available in New Zealand, including the
Carrier AquaSnap® 61AQ heat pump, AHI Carrier is helping
customers meet net-zero targets and make their buildings
more energy efficient.
AHI Carrier NZ General Manager,
Gary Felstead, said the company is strengthening its local
market presence by investing in people, its infrastructure,
and delivering future-focused HVAC&R solutions to both
commercial and residential customers.
“As the
company that invented modern air conditioning in 1902, we
continue to evolve and innovate, and the HVAC&R market
is entering a more competitive phase because of changing
customer needs and a greater focus on energy
efficiency.
“As energy costs rise and climate
concerns grow, AHI Carrier is committed to helping New
Zealand companies reduce their carbon footprint through
smart, efficient HVAC&R technologies.”
Leaders
in HVAC innovation
Hamish Flynn, AHI Carrier National
Commercial Manager, said the company’s innovation is
driven by Carrier’s global research and development
capability which is leveraged in New Zealand.
“We
enable our local commercial customers to manage their energy
use more effectively and meet sustainability targets with
solutions like natural refrigerant and intelligent control
systems.
“Solutions like these are key to our goal
of helping customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions
by 50% in line with New Zealand’s 2030 target – and
keeping on track to the 2050 carbon neutral
target.”

Expanding AHI Carrier’s national
footprint is key to meeting customer needs. The company is
making a multi-million-dollar investment locally, including
an upgrade to the Auckland head office to incorporate a new
training centre, showroom and upgraded Totaline store, as
well as new facilities in Wellington, Christchurch, and
Dunedin.
The company’s new Wellington facility has
additional warehouse and logistics capacity to meet regional
demand along with a state-of-the-art showroom, training
centre, and event space, as well as a Totaline Parts and
accessories operation.
In the South Island, the
company introduced a new Totaline store into the Dunedin
branch in June with a new Christchurch AHI-Carrier hub
scheduled to open in new premises in 2027.
Mr Felstead
said the investment signals a long-term market commitment
including recruiting an experienced leadership team,
increasing overall headcount, attracting industry experts
from competitor brands with deep technical expertise and
decades of experience in HVAC&R industry.
“Our
repositioning initiatives are yielding measurable results,
evidenced by significant growth in lead generation, a robust
and expanding quote pipeline, and increasing market share as
customers respond positively to our renewed market
approach,” said Mr Felstead.
Disrupting the
residential market
In the residential sector, the
launch of the new Ambi by Carrier heat pump is disrupting
the industry with its smaller, quieter, and more efficient
design.
Mr Felstead said Kiwi consumers want
energy-efficient and cost-saving solutions for home heating
and hot water, which are the two largest contributors to
household energy use.
“In a traditionally passive
market like New Zealand, where every brand is doing
something similar, Carrier combines global innovation with
local expertise to give customers heating and cooling
solutions tailored to modern households.
“Products
like the Ambi by Carrier and the Carrier Blue Hot Water Heat
Pump meet evolving energy efficiency standards with the goal
of supporting New Zealand’s transition to a low-emissions
economy.”
Strengthening industry
partnerships
AHI Carrier is building a new Partner
Authorised Installer network aimed at strengthening
collaboration with contractors and installers across the
country, including hot water specialists as the market
increasingly adopts this technology.
The initiative
aligns with the company’s guiding “Air with Care”
philosophy which reflects its commitment to advanced HVAC
technologies and building true partnerships in the
industry.
“Our goal is to create a culture of trust,
support and shared success with our partners,” Felstead
said. “By investing in people, facilities and training,
we’re ensuring the industry has the support it needs to
deliver the best outcomes for
consumers.”
