Police say there is no current threat to public safety.
Streets in a Napier suburb have reopened after an earlier “police operation” forced cordons this afternoon.
Police were called to an address on Gilray Ave shortly after 2:30pm after receiving reports of a small group of people fighting in the street.
“An area was cordoned off after police received a report that a firearm was involved,” police said.
“At this time, police have been unable to substantiate those reports.”
Inquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
Police earlier said streets in Maraenui were cordoned off “as a precaution” and the public was advised to avoid the suburb.
“There is no threat to public safety at this time,” police said.
