The University of Auckland has issued an alert warning of an armed offender on its city campus.
Armed police and dog units have responded to the campus and are clearing the area.
“A male offender armed with a long weapon of some description was last located in Sector 100,” UoA said in an alert to students.
The last known location of the person was on the Barrack lawn behind the of Choral Hall construction site, it said.

It said police are in attendance and are moving through the sector to locate the offender.
University security staff are clearing the campus, asking people to leave the grounds around Old Government House and the campus by Symonds St.
Police dogs could be seen inside the Kate Edgar information commons this morning. A staff member said he had been told the building was closed and to clear the floors by security.
Armed police are patrolling inside the building assisted by police dog units.

People are being urged to avoid the area which has been cordoned by police.
Police units are also circling the campus but there’s no sign they’ve arrested anyone.
Police have been approached for comment.
