A large building fire in rural South Auckland’s Pukekohe has been contained, but crews have warned nearby residents to close their windows.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) said it received multiple calls to a building on fire on Blake Rd at 5.09pm on Tuesday.
In an update at 7.30pm, the fire had been contained and 10 fire trucks were in attendance.
Crews were expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
“No other buildings are under threat but smoke heading towards Pukekohe town is proving to be a nuisance,” Fenz said.
Nearby residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed if smoke was present.
Fenz earlier said the building was “well involved in fire upon arrival”.
The 20m by 10m building was thought to be a “packing shed”.
Photos from the scene show firefighters directing a high-pressure water hose at the smoking building.
