One person dead after crash on SH8 near Tekapo

One person has died after a crash on State Highway 8 near Tekapo this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at 3.17pm on Fairlie-Tekapo Rd, near Lilybank Rd.

Police confirmed tonight one person died at the scene, and a second person sustained moderate injuries.

State Highway 8 at Fairlie-Tekapo Road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit attend the scene.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said two appliances from Fairlie and Lake Tekapo earlier responded to the scene.
