“Due to the nature of the report, specialist police groups are in attendance,” a police spokesman said.

A witness told RNZ he saw two people arguing on the street.

Soon after one of the men “got up, put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a gun and loaded it and pointed it at him and said he’s going to shoot him”.

Members of the public, including some school children, have been diverted away from the scene.

The public has been asked to avoid the area.

No injuries have been reported.
