Tonight’s big win is made up of $8 million from Powerball and a quarter share of the Division One prize.

One New Zealander is $8.25 million richer after tonight’s Powerball jackpot was struck on a single ticket.

The win is made up of $8m from Powerball and a quarter share of the Division One prize. The winning ticket was sold on MyLotto to a player from Central Otago.

Three other tickets without the Powerball number each won $250,000. The winning tickets were sold at Woolworths Newtown in Wellington, and on MyLotto to players from Napier and Carterton.

Meanwhile, one lucky Strike player will also be celebrating after winning $300,000 with Strike Four. The winning Strike ticket was sold at Victory on the Spot in Nelson.

Tonight’s winner is the 18th Powerball multi-millionaire of 2023, and the win comes just weeks after a $8.3 million Powerball prize was won by a couple in Whakatāne.

The couple said they are looking forward to helping future generations with their win.

The first Powerball multi-millionaire of 2023 was an Aucklander who netted $23.5m in January while one player in Lower Hutt won over $24.2m in October.

Another winner in Paraparaumu claimed a $37m jackpot in August and spoke to the Herald after her win saying she had only gone to the supermarket to buy a chocolate bar and picked up her lucky Lotto ticket on a whim.
